Welcome to Nonsense on Stilts, where our motto is "Better dead than red." It has absolutely nothing to do with what this site is all about, but it's a great motto anyway.
Here's how it breaks down. We've got Nonsense on Stilts, my semimonthly humor column. It's updated the first and third Thursday of each month. If that's too hard to remember, just check in every couple of weeks or so, and we should have a new column for you. Then we've got Word Bites, short little snippets of things that I think are funny, updated daily Monday-Friday and archived at the beginning of the week for those of you who like to feel like you're getting a new refreshing Internet experience with every click of the mouse.
And if that's not enough for you, we've got the Cartoon of the Week. I've dabbled in cartooning off and on for years, and now I'm posting a new one at the beginning of each week. Beyond that there are a few other links you might want to check out as well.
I was watching this show on human sexuality. They had this thing about a custom in Italy in the old days. Apparently, it was improper for a young woman to go out to try to meet a husband, so when a family had a daughter of marriageable age, they would stick a basil plant on the window ledge as a sign to prospective suitors. I got this image of small groups of randy young men roaming the streets of Verona, saying, "Did you see the basil on that one?"
